THERE'S STILL ONE MAJOR AMERICAN EMPLOYER THAT IS STILL HIRING
WORKERS RIGHT NOW
, NEVER MINDING THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC
RECESSION – The Federal Government

Comes as a surprise to you? Or, finding it hard for you to believe it?

Well, that could be understandable! I mean, finding it hard to believe on your part, considering how little
this actual FACT is known to most Americans.
But, still the truth is that, even at this very hour, in the midst
of the current gruesome national economic recession and growing unemployment when almost every one
else is laying off workers, there is in fact still ONE major American employer which still exists and continues,
even RIGHT NOW, to hire a considerable number of new American workers, and to provide them excellent,
meaningful jobs! There is, in deed, one such ‘animal’ in the area of employment in American today!
And it
is called the United States Federal Government civil service
- our nation’s largest employer with
still nearly 2 million employees, and counting! (Much more than that, if other workers, such as the U.S.
Postal Service employees, the CIA, and nonmilitary civilian personnel, and others, are included).

“[our findings are that] “no matter what your area of
expertise, or where you live, if you are looking for a job where
you can develop your professional skills and make a
difference in the lives  of others, the federal government has
[and will likely have] a job for you
- Report, Study by The
Partnership for Public Service
It’s the biggest job secret in America
today. But it can become
YOUR own gain!

Granted, this is probably the best kept job ‘secret’ on jobs, though a most pleasant one, that exists
today in the otherwise grim American employment market today. BUT THAT, ALSO, MEANS ONE
FANTASTIC THING FOR YOU:
an opportunity, probably the best one you’d ever have, to seek out
one among these existing plentiful most priced employments in the entire American workforce today.
And to get one of them -
a job working for one of the most desired employers anywhere in the
nation or the world, t
he United States Federal government.

HERE IS HOW THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT STILL CONTINUES
TO BE THE BIG HIRER OF WORKERS
EVEN RIGHT NOW, IN THESE
AWFUL ECONOMIC TIMES….

Consider, for example, this trend projected for the future job situation:

  • The Federal Government, being the largest single American (and world) employer by
far, employs a total of about 2,700,000 workers as of January 2008 – dwarfing a national
and international labor-hire powerhouse like Wal-Mart, for example, which is the largest
private sector company worldwide, which employs just 1.8 million workers, by at least a
    whopping 900,000 employees!

  • So-called RECESSION PROOF JOBS - Judging by the Federal government’s own hiring figures
in the past few years (it had hired an average of nearly 240,000 workers per year in the
years 2001 through 2006, and a little less than that in the years thereafter), the Federal
government hires workers consistently and continuously, NO MATTER WHAT - rain or
shine, in good economic times and bad times - an average of almost a quarter of a million
(250,000) new workers each and every single year – to take care of newly created needs or
functions, as well as to replace retired workers, or workers who transfer to the private sector
or other jobs, or those who leave for health, personal or other reasons, etc

  • Projected future new job growth trends, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
statisticians and respected private sector experts (including the comprehensive study by the
Partnership for Public Service, which surveyed the hiring needs of federal agencies for the
2005-2009 period), is that there will be new federal hires of at least roughly 100,000 new
jobs for each and every year through 2009, but that those new hires will occur mostly in
FIVE or SIX major professional fields.

  • Those five areas where the vast majority of the projected new 200,000 Federal hires
would occur (some 80 percent of them) over those two year period of 2008-2009, will be in
the so-called “mission-critical” jobs area - meaning, the critical, must-do, national security
    oriented kinds of jobs.

  • These are the fields involved:

1. Security, Protection, Compliance and Enforcement (62,863 new hires) - which will include
inspectors, investigators, police officers, airport screeners, and prison guards

2. Medical and Public Health (35,350 new hires, compared to 25,756 in the 2005 survey)

3. Accounting, Budget and Business (21,248 new hires) – This is likely due, at least in part, to
increased demand for contracting specialists, and will include positions like revenue agents and tax
examiners working with the IRS

4. Engineering and Sciences (17,477 new hires) – positions like microbiologists, botanists,
physicists, chemists, and veterinarians

5. Program Management/Analysis and Administration (14,305 new hires) -

  • The large increases projected in compliance and enforcement hires (27,243, up from 6,760 in
2005), is linked primarily to expanded customs, border security and immigration activities by
    the Department of Homeland Security.

  • There will be dramatically increased demand for information technology (IT) specialists. In
2007, two out of every three agencies list IT as a mission critical occupation and these
agencies plan to hire 11,562 IT professionals through 2009.

  • Other specific jobs with high demand through 2009, include air traffic controllers, engineers,
Foreign Service Officers, and patent examiners.

  • One area of expected area of decline in demand in federal employment, will likely be for
secretaries, administrative assistants and clerks continues to decline.

  • The increasing proportion of minorities and immigrants in the American population will produce
more diverse workplace, with Asians and Hispanics the fastest growing groups. Also, the
percentage of immigrants filling U.S. jobs will be on the increase.

  • Both technological advances and globalization will also continue to shape our economic base,
continuing the shift from manufacturing to an economy dominated by “knowledge workers.”

  • This will place a premium on technical expertise, as well as on the so-called “soft skills”
(items, such as reasoning, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.). Professional
occupations such as those ones (including occupations
in information technology, mathematics, health care and
health-related technical occupations, education, training
and library science), are projected to register the largest
job growth in the economy. (Many of these fastest
growing occupations require University degrees in fields
where the United States used to dominate but is now
lagging behind other countries, such as mathematics,
engineering and the sciences).

Yes, Federal hiring! It Continues EVERY DAY.
RIGHT NOW - even as we speak.
PLENTY...PLENTY....

Except for jobs in occupational groups belonging to the professional and related occupations, and
management, business and financial, most federal jobs in other occupations (e.g., jobs in the office and
administrative support, installation, maintenance and repair, transportation and material moving, production,
construction and extraction, sales, farming and fishing) do not require more than a high school diploma. Most
departments and agencies, however, prefer workers with vocational training or previous experience.
